[opensuse] mirror/copy server
Hi all, i'd like to make an exact copy of a server so that i can use it as a test bed to test updates etc. Is there a way i can mirror the setup exactly without having to go through the whole rigmarole of configuring everything over again. rsync or dd. Works best if you can temporarily put the disk in the server to do the copy. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've used partition imaging apps. Back when I was doing OS/2 support at IBM, I used Partition Magic. I've since use Ghost and Copy Commander. There are a couple of Linux imaging apps, such as Partimage etc. Failing that, there's always dd and many backup programs will do a "bare metal" restore. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

rsync into a VMware server. That provides snapshot functionality, an urgently needed feature for testing updates etc. Joachim -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Joachim Schrod Email: jschrod@acm.org Roedermark, Germany -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
