If you feel up to it, try qmail, a clean sendmail replacement.
Install Postfix instead. It has similar features, and can handle high throughput while acting in civilised ways with connecting machines. `qmail' has the reputation of being like its author: competent but rough. Postfix has been written by Wietse Venema, also a competent guy (but a nice one, this time :-), also known for wrote tcp_wrappers and other security tools. You may find Postfix right into your SuSE distribution. -- François Pinard http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~pinard -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
I can second Francois' recommendation about installing postfix. I was having lots of troubles getting Sendmail configured correctly for my home machine (basically I wanted to mask my real user name on all outbound emails), and someone on the #suse group suggested installing postfix over the top. I did so, and it has been working wonderfully ever since. There are no cryptic files to try and edit - the main one is easy to understand, and is pretty well documented. Plus there are quite a few other sample configuration files available with comments on how to use them imbedded in the file. And postfix offers a good website for additional support at www.postfix.org Good luck. Stuart p.s. It interfaces very well with Procmail as well. p.p.s. I have no comment on the smoothness of qmail, or its author as I have never used it. On 08 Feb 2000 09:21:17 -0500, you wrote:
