[opensuse] ECS A785GM-M & ATI RADEON HD 4200 + Opensuse 11.1
All, I'm just a newbie and try to install OpenSuse 11.1 on my compie: Mobo: ECS A785GM-M VGA: ATI Radeon HD 4200 All working fine, until I trying to upgrade my VGA driver. Do this: 1. Download ati-driver-installer-10-1-x86.x86_64.run and then run it as a root PC05008:/etc/X11 # sh ./ati-driver-installer-10-1-x86.x86_64.run follow all instructions on screen, and then run command PC05008:/etc/X11 # /usr/bin/aticonfig --initial -f after all reboot the system. re-login, and got the message "Kwin is unstable" ... no-keyboard response at all. So I do uninstall ATI Driver with steps: (as a root): # cd /usr/shar/ati/ # sh ./fglrx-uninstall.sh and replace /etc/X11/xorg.conf with xorg.conf.original-0 2. Try 1-click feature from opensuse.org but it's seems the x11-video-fglrx-G02.rpm have a badsum. any clue ? sorry for my poor English. Virgani, You are much better off building the rpm and installing the driver manually rather than relying on the "Magic Installer". This will walk you through it: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/linux/hdw/ati/ati_quick-reference.txt There is a link at the end to a sample xorg.conf that you can compare against the one you are trying to use. I haven't updated the reference in a while, but the procedure hasn't changed. Let me know if you have any other problems. Good luck -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Please try the packages offered by ATI. See http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories -> "ATI Video drivers" In 99.99% of the cases there is no need to compile anything. You "only" need to know which additional software repository is required. Don't listen to those recommending to compile it at your own. The majority of users have better things to do. ;) Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
