I have downloaded 12.2 twice, burned them to a DVD and twice it will not boot. The previous DVD of 12.1 boot fine. Corrupt ISO file on website ? You should verify it via md5 that it didn't happen this time either before wasting our time.

I have no idea what that means. I download by feeding the URI to wget, a downloader. I don't download with a web browser except when the source refuses to disgorge the URI or the referrer is required but fails. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." You still didn't answer my question, which included the word "exactly". Saying what you did here is not equivalent to how you did what you did. It appears you didn't use a downloader, but instead a web browser, but that's just an educated guess. Anyway, since the md5 is OK, and ostensibly it can still boot some other DVD or CD, maybe someone else has an idea. If you want to install in spite of DVD not working, just extract the installation kernel and initrd from the iso file or DVD, load them with Grub, and install directly off the web using HTTP. I install that way 25-50 times as often as booting from OM. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Hi Duaine, You mentioned that your DVD drive is working. Did you try booting with your old 12.1 DVD? I've seen DVD drives fail in mysterious ways. If 12.1 also fails to boot maybe it's time to spring for a new drive? Also, how did you burn the 12.2 DVD? Did you use k3b and select the "verify" option? You've got an interesting issue there if 12.1 boots, but 12.2 with a good MD5 hash and DVD doesn't. You have done tests to lead to this conclusion/suspicion? List or are you grasping straws (as it seems). You have had several suggestions to try to isolate and identify your problem but you do not offer answers or responses or any kind. Yes, these are called: k3b,dd and md5sum. take an iso-image, calculate the md5 yourself (just incase), burn it (iso-file locally, single speed) with k3b and enable "verify" rip the just burned dvd, calculate again the md5, compare both md5 checksum. btw, while burning check the load of the system. If it is heavily swapping or with high load one get unpredictable results. While burning, do a tail -f on /var/log/messages: hardware-errors will get mentioned there -;) btw2, try other brand of media. afaicr there are three or four levels of quality. Some are cheap as dirt, but with an obvious reason. btw3, depending how often you are going to use that particular dvd, you might consider other ways of installing: net-boot-cdrom, pxe-boot or usb-stick. I would recommend pxe-boot... hw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
