[opensuse] HP PhotoSmart C6180
Hi, all -- I hate printers, but ... you just can't get away from them, and it would be helpful to be able to print from my laptop instead of needing to go and borrow another. Ugh. I tried the YaST "Add New Printer" config and I can talk to it but cannot find any drivers when I search for "photosmart". Does anyone have any pointers to the simplest way to set up this sucker? Note that this is a older multi-function inkjet that probably relies on the PC to do the composition work, so my laptop will likely need a driver that will lay out the page and then send the rendered finished version for printing. Oh for the simple days of a LaserJet III that handled whatever you threw at it! :-) Anyway, I'd love any tips. look and see if it is supported by hplip. if so, *that* is the way to go. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I WILL! :-) I grabbed the .run installer script and ran through it. On my LEAP 42.3 system, it had to install a lot of dependencies and then uninstalled the two partial(?) hplip RPMs and then ... a test page came out! So, yeah, this was drop-dead easy. Thanks again! but hplip comes already with the distribution. You only need to install the upstream version if your printer is too new. cer@Telcontar:~> rpm -qa hplip hplip-3.16.11-1.3.x86_64 cer@Telcontar:~> - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
