SuSE 9.0 FTP and Java
Hi, I read in this list that java2 and java2-jre are not provided in the FTP version. (License reasons) Well, I've downloaded j2sdk rpm from Sun java site. What have I to do now with respect to the OpenOffice dependencies problem. It depends on libjawt.so and with the installation of j2sdk I still have warnings about the this dependency. I assume I have to make some soft links I don't know. Please, for DVD/CD SuSE 9.0 version owners: Where the rpm files are installed and what java2 and java2-jre are providing?. Any hint? The j2sdk Sun RPM files are instaled in /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_03 directory. Thanks in advance. Guillermo. -- Guillermo Ballester Valor Linux user #117181. You downloaded the development package (sdk) you need the runtime package (jre). Ken Schneider

I first downloaded j2re, then j2sdk to see whether the problems go away. I see that j2sdk includes jre files. Anyway I had the same problems with j2re rpm packages. The SuSE Java goes into /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4.2/. I've installed j2sdk1.4.2_03 from Sun and it's had no impact on OpenOffice.org-1.1.0 which also worked on the SuSE distro Java. The only difference probably is that I am using the OpenOffice binary downloaded from the OpenOffice.org site. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer Linux Only Shop.

After making links (adding config to /etc/java and then SuSEconfig) yast will still complain about libjawt.so. Just ignore it. When you will install OOo locally you will see the install script is happy to use installed j2re. -- Marek Chlopek

Thanks!. I did it. I configured /opt/java/SunJava2 file. As you said, there is still libjawt.so warnings. The problem here is I cannot use apt if I don't resolve it: bach:~ # apt-get upgrade Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these. The following packages have unmet dependencies: OpenOffice_org: Depends: libjawt.so but it is not installable E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f. I if run 'apt-get -f install' OOficce is erased :(. So I'm wondering whether there is a way to resolve this dependence problem. I like apt very much. Regards. I do not use apt... and even really don't known what it does (rpm like app???) what is -f option (equivalent to rpm's --nodeps ???) -- Marek Chlopek
Hi, I've been writing an almost void rpm trying to resolve the dependencies problems. I think I found the solution, at least it resolved my problems. I wrote an rpm for those SuSE 9.0 FTP users downloading j2sdk from Sun site. 1) First download j2sdk RPM from http://java.sun.com/ 2) Install it 3) Then install the small java2 RPM in my site (it is actually a conf file). http://www.oxixares.com/~gbv/rpms/SuSE_9.0/java2/java2-1.4.2_03-1.i586.rpm It will write /etc/java/SunJava2.conf and will run SuSEconfig. It also provides the uninstalable libjawt.so. It is an experimental package. Please feel free to send me any sugestion or comment. Guillermo. On Sunday 14 December 2003 16:13, Marek Chlopek wrote:

Not too sure if the following info would help, I too recently had to install java and stumbled across the following info: extract the j2sdk files to /opt/java Create a new local profile /etc/profile.local Add the following lines: export JAVA_BINDIR = /opt/java/bin export JAVA_ROOT = /opt/java export JAVA_HOME = /opt/java exoprt JRE_HOME = /opt/java/jre export JDK_HOME = /opt/java export SDK_HOME = /opt/java #export JAVA_LINK = SunJava2-1.4 (not sure about JAVA_LINK - I've just cut n paste from /etc/java/java2.conf). Which worked when manually implementing Tomcat environement (I suspect you could also update the system path in this file to i.e something like export PATH = $PATH:/opt/java/bin ?), however, admittedly upon reinstall of SuSE I just included the j2SDK from their distro disks, but principal should work. greg.
