Please let me know how to unsubrscribe from this list
The paragraph below tells you what you need to know to unsubscribe. Also, in the header of each email should be this.. list-unsubscribe: If you cut and paste the address shown after the above entry the you will be unsubscribed, but then again the help email address below would have hipped you to that fact. :)
Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

One thing I've noticed about this thread and the unsubscribe issue in general is that _most_ people using computers and reading email have never seen a real header before in their lives. Outlook/Outlook express doesn't show them, the web mail servers (hotmail, yahoo) don't show them, kmail doesn't show them, evolution doesn't show them, and on and on. Most people believe that the header is the pretty little thing at the top thats lists to who, from who, the subject and thats it. Perhaps instead of giving people grief, couldn't we just tell them that the mail programs typically hide the header for ease of readability and that you can show your headers by checking some sort of option box?? It really turns people off when they go to ask a question like this and people reply "RTFM". Didn't peoples grandma's ever tell them, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" ???

But, I did not find any such option. Can you please tell me how I could turn on this option? Thank you. - Ram.

View -> Headers -> All Headers should do it for you. And I sure do agree with Mike. RTFM is extremely annoying to a frustrated user who is pulling their hair out. If the best help someone can give is RTFM than why respond at all. -- Don't use no double negatives. ---------------------------------------------------------------- SuSE 8.2 - KDE 3.1.3

Anyway, the address to unsubscribe from suse's lists, is the listname-unsubscribe. Foe example, suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com I already tried it once, and it worked.

The address in the list-unsubscribe header is a custom address for every subscriber that will allow you to unsubscribe from another address (a common problem). I don't put it in the trailer since people who are sloppy about trimming their posts would reveal their actual subscription address which is otherwise hidden from other subscribers and the archives. -- -ckm

Now just for curiosity, how can I see those headers?

You can view them with your mail client. X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.2.3 -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

Read the manual for your mail client.
I've tried to point out the insanity of this "read the headers to unsubscribe" thing before, but got nowhere. This comment tempts me to try again. Chris, you are now telling people that in order to get off this list, they have to read the manual to their email client, and learn about headers and how to get to see them? Do people want to do that? Do they have the time? Why is it so hard to change the tagline which so confuses newbies and the email-uninitiated to: To unsubscribe see http://www.suse.com/us/business/mailinglists.html ? --

asbestos gloves on.

No.
Do people want to do that? Do they have the time?
Give me a break. It's not like the instructions say 'To unsubscribe telnet to port 25 of lists.suse.com and forge an unsubscription using the address you subscribed with'.
Why is it so hard to change the tagline which so confuses newbies and the email-uninitiated to:
To unsubscribe see http://www.suse.com/us/business/mailinglists.html
It's not, it's that that is not very helpful. 99% of the subscribers can unsubscribe by emailing LISTNAME-unsubscribe@suse.com. For those people who are at sites whose admins are morons and change the sender domain without realizing what they are doing or people who's ISP (like attbi) is being taken over ever other week by another company, doing that won't work. They can't post to the list either. They can, however, email the address in list-unsubscribe header in any mail they get from the list and unsubscribe themselves. -- -ckm
