HELP Somehow User has become Root permanently
Somehow I screwed up user permissions at login In other words when I log into my system as user "harry" and issue a whoami command, it shows "root" instead of "harry" as it should. As a result I'm always operating as "root". The login prompts just like it used to: asking for username and password both of which are accepted. Apparently earlier in the day when I was doing some compiling of programs and switched to su at make install time, I somehow made the user name "harry" assume "root" permissions permanently. ANY suggestions would be appreciated as this must be rectified before I inadvertently wipe out my fully populated system. ALL users have been switched to "root" privileges, not just "harry". Thanks in advance. Harry

First step: Check your /etc/groups file and /etc/gshadow and make sure you havn't added group root to each user. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
