This was just sent out as a daily tip from ugu. http://www.ugu.com/sui/ugu/show?tip.today LINUX RENAMING SETS OF FILES Easy way to rename a set of files in Linux: *** Need not use any SHELL script *** or any other prog. *** simply use the rename command **SYNTAX:** % rename .<ext1> .<ext2> <files> eg: To rename all .jpg to .gif use: % rename .jpg .gif * To rename only .jpg with starting letter as t to .gif use: % rename .jpg .gif t*
(2) Where can I look for more documentation on whatever you used to make this possible? I'm used to whipping out quick scripts using QBasic or a text editor on the Windows side, but I'm not sure what tools are available for me in SuSE...
