Kernel 2.4.24 was just released. It looks like a pure security release. (see the kernel.org changelog) Does anyone know if those patches are already in k_deflt-2.4.21-144, or should we be looking for a you update soon. Thanks Greg -- Greg Freemyer

That _is_ the latest; the prior version was 2.4.21-144.

the good news then is that my nVidia setup still works after that... :)

SUSE doesn't do completely new versions. They patch the existing versions as not to break things. So your all good. Thanks Greg
2.4.24 is part of the 2.4 kernel development. It's not just a security release, it's gone through a -pre series, then a -rc series and now deemed OK for release as just 2.4.24. The secuity elements are new and I don't currently know the origin, it could be SuSE or any other kernel developers. If it's in the SuSE kernel, it should be very easy to check the kernel.org patch against the -144 kernel for the changes. There are also lots of other stuff in SuSE kernels that don't appear in the standard kernel, even the likes of alsa is not in the kernel.org 2.4 releases, so I have to build alsa separately. I shall be booting 2.4.24 on the laptop and 2.6.1-rc1-mm1 on this box later. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer Linux Only Shop.

Incorrect. 2.4.24 is basically an emergency release. It is not based on the 2.4.24-pre series. The 2.4.24-pre series will now be the basis of 2.4.25

Apologies, I've just had time to look again and you are correct, it's a departure from the normal that I didn't spot in my quick flick through. Regards Sid.
