[opensuse] compiz / xgl-hardware-list / nvidia 8500gt
Hi, How do you add a device to xgl-hardware-list? Does it even make a technical difference or is it mere information? Nvidia's 8500GT is fully supported, compiz works good. It doesn't show up in /etc/X11/xgl-hardware-list though. The whole series doesn't, not even as "unknown". http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Video_Card_Support_Under_XGL is down. Could you make an enhancement request on http://bugzilla.novell.com please. Thanks -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Oops, you got me there. In the process of creating a Novell login I've read through http://www.novell.com/company/policies/privacy/ which I personally will not accept. The spam opt-outs mentioned seem to be fine although imho they should come up earlier in the process. The potential wide-spread of personal data ("Personal information collected on Novell sites and services may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Novell or its affiliates, subsidiaries or agents maintain facilities, and by using a Novell site or service, you consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country.") is not. I hope this doesn't come out wrong. I'd very much like to see another, less privacy-intrusive mechanism for bug-reporting. Wrt 8500gt, here's lspci -v 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8500 GT (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Unknown device 824e Maybe you got a minute? Well, you had 2 if you read down this far :) Thank you, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

so as has been explained here on numerous occasions, give whatever information you want and don't give what you don't want. The *only* specific required information is a good email addr, and *any* personal name will suffice, even John/Jane Doe. then make the bug-report. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Err, The Novell login creation page lists name, job title, company, street address, city, country, telephone and email as required fields. Am I looking at the wrong page (http://tinyurl.com/389dtd)? no, put whatever you want into all fields except the email addr which you need for them to communicate with you. For what it's worth, I see nothing wrong with Novell having my personal address and "what's in a job title?", credit card companies, insurance companies, banks, hospitals, ..., all get much more personal information from you and until lately when the identity swapping became a no-no, did whatever they wanted with your personal information/ life :^) But that's just *my* opinion! -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I appreciate Novell being pretty straightforward and honest about what they might potentially do with your personal information (A lot) so I'd rather not lie in return. No offence, allright? no offence, but also no bug report. So where is the middle ground, openSUSE is not worthy of improvement via bug reports? openSUSE/Novell representatives in this forum have presented the scenario I related for those hesitant to stand for their real name as an acceptable way to still present the bug reports. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
