YaST install/RMP error -- filesystem problem?
Hi all, I've been using SuSE Linux 8.1 for about 3 or 4 weeks now on a older box (PII350, 64mb RAM upgraded to 192.) Everything has been running smoothly until recently when YaST hiccuped and doesn't want to install new software through the Administration-->YaST2 Modules-->Software-->Install or remove software. This began after trying to reinstall Mozilla 1.0.1 (I stupidly overwrote the default installation with v1.3), and now when installing or updating Mozilla from CD2 via YaST, the progress bar hits 100%, a box pops up telling me there was an error, and the log shows the following: mozilla-1.0.1-10.i586.rpm failed rpm output: error getting record rpmlib(PayloadIsBzip2) from //var/lib/rpm/requiredby.rpm 993 This happens with everything I try to install from RPM through YaST now -- whatever //var/lib/rpm/requiredby.rpm causes an error. Effectively, it stops me from adding software or updating my system. I started with a refurbished system, but it has only been partitioned and on its feet for under a month. In that time I don't see what I could have done to mess things up. I would describe my knowledgeability with Linux as intermediate -- a few cuts above a novice having extensive computer experience and having run a distro of linux previous to SuSE 8.1. Having said that, I have no idea what the issue is here. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Searching through SuSE's site and various linux forums have yielded few results, since this may be SuSE-specific. Any help appreciated, Tim Moule

It looks like your RPM database is corrupt, try rebuilding it as root using the command: rpm --rebuilddb Charles -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+gSr33epPyyKbwPYRAkrrAJ99FDANtj+jY7DNdyZ/duvpsDI2DQCgyovs T9vg+IXIgq09TCAAgMmhGeg= =vHyT -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
