I've just reinstalled 7.1 from scratch and am getting it set up. Email works - I have sendmail running locally as installed by Yast for a simple dialup modem system. Fetchmail fetches the mail, Netscape is the client. All is fine except one thing: When I am offline, and I type an email into Netscape and hit send, I get an error back from sendmail (via Netscape) saying the domain for my (the sender's) address is not valid. The domain is yahoo.co.uk, which, when offline, is indeed not going to be visible. When I go online it works fine. What can I do about this?

Forgive me if I have not understood your setup or needs properly, but isn't the simple answer to select "send later" rather than "send" when you are working offline ? The draft will be saved to your "Unsent Messages" folder and can be sent when next you are online. I don't use Netscape as my emailer any longer (I find Sylpheed to be excellent), but I think that is what I used to do. You may need to collect your mail before sending any from the Unsent Folders, btw, because the Yahoo mail server requires user authentication before it will accept new mail. The way my old system worked (as set up by a friend) was that Netscape used localhost as the outgoing mail server, so Send Now worked fine even when offline. The outgoing mail was spooled until I connected to the net, at which time sendmail would do it's thing and upload the waiting mail. It was all transparent. I could use Send Later but it's not as convenient.

read the SDB article I recommended earlier this day to dizzy: further info from the SDB: http://localhost/sdb/en/html/smt_sendmail.html There are one or two more articles; just search for sendmail and look for the obvious. ;-) I think it's the settings in /etc/rc.config.d/sendmail.rc.config or how it's called... Set it to the parameters in the named article. Juergen

What SMTP server have you specified in your Netscape preferences? If you have specified yahoo's server then your mail will not go when offline. If you specify localhost, and configure sendmail to use yahoo.co.uk as a relay host, then you can mail using your yahoo account even when offline.
