Now years after using console as hobby only, I find time to get myself to view around in KDE, finding it _very_ annoying that all the time Kmixer comes up with some stupid default settings which in result in a terrible beep on my notebook as Kmixer defaults to MIC=activated. So I remove that nonsense everytime to save my ears. But after next boot, all those settings which I have just made are gone. The File folder neither shows an option to SAVE the settings, what now? KDE is often difficult for first-time users and not very self-explaining... (I have been programming assembler for 17 years, but I have never seen such a shit like Netscape under Linux, totally inreasonable and partly unlogic key kombinations, even WORSE than the ns-windoze version). -- *º¤., ¸¸,.¤º*¨¨¨*¤ =Oliver@home= *º¤., ¸¸,.¤º*¨¨*¤ I http://www.bmw-roadster.de/Friends/Olli/olli.html I I http://www.bmw-roadster.de/Friends/friends.html I I http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VGAP-93 I I http://home.t-online.de/home/spacecraft.portal I

I would try two places. First set up the sound the way you want it in Kmix (include a right click on the Microphone slider and click on muted). Click on file -> save current volumes as default. Then I would go to Control Center -> Sound -> mixer and click on Save current volumes. It takes a while to learn the tricks of a GUI. Stay calm and experiment! I have downloaded Mozilla 0.9.4 and like it. It might be worth a try. Then there is always Opra, Konqueror, Galeon, or even Lynx. Keep searching until you find one you can put up with. well yes. that's kde. but there has to be a setting for bass, trebles, wave and volume BEFORE starting kde. example: anytime i reboot and start mp3blaster for instance which is console(!), i have the same things. where is that setting OUTSIDE kde?

That depends .. There's a whole bunch of tools that can help you set your audio settings: % man -k mixer aumix (1) - adjust audio mixer nmixer (1) - An interactive text-based sound-mixer control program amixer (1) - commandline mixer for ALSA soundcard driver alsamixer (1) - soundcard mixer for ALSA soundcard driver, with ncurses interface smix (1) - a mixer for Linux xmix (1) - X Windows (Xaw) interface to Linux Sound Driver Mixer aumix is probably what you want. read the manpages, and stick aumix somewhere in your boot sequence (do man insserv to find out how tyo stick your custom boot scripts in the init sequence). Kind regards,
Hi Gerhard! I know that myself. I shall tell you the entire story: I run Suse 7.0 on a TOSHIBA Tecra 8000 and Alsa did not work at all for me, so I canned that shit and got rid of it. Some mate here gave me a "by-hand"-configuration, which concists of 4 or 5 lines in etc/modules.conf - and voila my on board chip plays musique... so I do _not_ nor intend to try ALSA and that a like again. This results in man -k reporting in like: amixer alsamixer smix Yes, and when I try to run one out of these it reports that it cannot find the alsa driver, which is crystal clear to me because i threw it away (did not detect anything, did not work) and made it by hand. So what I need is a BY-HAND-SOLUTION to set the volumes in my boot.local which does NOT DEPEND on alsa, that ugly thing I can do without by now.... :-( I sincerely hope I did not offend any of you, but since some radio amateur lost part of his HAM spirit and almost got personal because of misunderstanding my repeated answers I stronly hope I expressed myself so that you understand me right now. Ideas on how to solve this? Thanks mates, I deeply enjoy reading you here!!!! -- *º¤., ¸¸,.¤º*¨¨¨*¤ =Oliver@home= *º¤., ¸¸,.¤º*¨¨*¤ I http://www.bmw-roadster.de/Friends/Olli/olli.html I I http://www.bmw-roadster.de/Friends/friends.html I I http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VGAP-93 I I http://home.t-online.de/home/spacecraft.portal I
