where is that setting OUTSIDE kde?
That depends .. There's a whole bunch of tools that can help you set your audio settings: % man -k mixer aumix (1) - adjust audio mixer nmixer (1) - An interactive text-based sound-mixer control program amixer (1) - commandline mixer for ALSA soundcard driver alsamixer (1) - soundcard mixer for ALSA soundcard driver, with ncurses interface smix (1) - a mixer for Linux xmix (1) - X Windows (Xaw) interface to Linux Sound Driver Mixer
aumix is probably what you want. read the manpages, and stick aumix somewhere in your boot sequence (do man insserv to find out how tyo stick your custom boot scripts in the init sequence).
Kind regards,
Hi Gerhard! I know that myself. I shall tell you the entire story: I run Suse 7.0 on a TOSHIBA Tecra 8000 and Alsa did not work at all for me, so I canned that shit and got rid of it. Some mate here gave me a "by-hand"-configuration, which concists of 4 or 5 lines in etc/modules.conf - and voila my on board chip plays musique... so I do _not_ nor intend to try ALSA and that a like again. This results in man -k reporting in like: amixer alsamixer smix Yes, and when I try to run one out of these it reports that it cannot find the alsa driver, which is crystal clear to me because i threw it away (did not detect anything, did not work) and made it by hand. So what I need is a BY-HAND-SOLUTION to set the volumes in my boot.local which does NOT DEPEND on alsa, that ugly thing I can do without by now.... :-( I sincerely hope I did not offend any of you, but since some radio amateur lost part of his HAM spirit and almost got personal because of misunderstanding my repeated answers I stronly hope I expressed myself so that you understand me right now. Ideas on how to solve this?
