Re: [opensuse] RPM Question

I figured it out last night. Got everything installed. From what I can see a RPM file is very similar to a windows .msi file. I did run into a dependency problem last night which I will fix today however I got most of the stuff installed.
RPM = Redhat Package Manager It contains ALL files needed to install the package contained within it. Advice -- try breaking the habit of thinking of everything in terms of a "windows equivalent" because most Windows stuff is, to put it frankly... broken implementations of otherwise good ideas. Case in point... "shortcuts" as compared to symbolic links. Shortcuts are extremely crippled.

I want to install some GUI tools for MySQL. OpenSuse/Software has a MySQL Gui Install but it is like tiny 330kb or so. I also downloaded the MySQL GUI install tarball from the MYSQL site which is 32 MB. I was just wondering if I needed internet connectivity to install any of these.
If you have the file on the machine, why would you require an internet connection to open up and process an RPM file?
