OK, here's an easier, newbie-ish one for you! :-) I sometimes try to build applications from magazine CD's that are based on... "X library" stuff. These use a variety of installation procedures but, with default SuSE settings, I usually end up "missing something" :-| In the latest example I'm using command "make all" to build an applications (Procmeter3) based on GTK3+(?). It fails near the start with e.g. gcc being unable to find header files: X11/X.h, X11/Xlib.h... OK, I'm sure I could (eventually) fix this (apologies for the laziness component here :-) but sometimes I need a *GENERAL* prod in the right direction. Is this a question of PATHS not being pre-defined as the author assumed or have I neglected to *install* some component of the X-library? All this under a fairly barefoot SuSE 8.0 installation. Thanks, Chris
In the case of these files, you want xdevel, most of the files you will need if you want to compile something (which is what you're doing), then you'll generally need the respective "devel" package. e.g. qt3-devel for the qt.h type files kdelibs3-devel and kdebase3-devel for kde Ewan On Wed, 2002-07-31 at 22:42, Chris Roberts wrote:

Duly received - Thanks indeed to Ewan L. and Tor Sigurdsson :-) Installed xdevel... also needed gtk-devel. I now have a (rather splendid!) "procmeter3" running on my desktop, so at least I *know* if my AMD processor is getting a bit warm now <G> Chris
