[opensuse] Samba 3.3.0-17 and SuSE11.0
Hi list, - no matter what or from where (YaST, direct RPM) I can't seem to get Samba 3.3.0-17.... to install on my SuSE11. It says /usr/bin/ldbmodify;496dcf9b: cpio: read fail - and more errors of the same kind. The system is a brand new virginal openSuSE11. - I fetched the RPMs from (for example): http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/network:/ samba:/MAINTAINED:/later/openSUSE_11.0/i586/samba-client-3.0.33-2.1.i586.rpm - anyone knows anything? -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard Open Source Academy +45 56964223 Novell Certified Linux Professional 10035701 ------------------------------ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I just tried jo upgrade/install samba packages onto my SuSE10.3 machine. It seems (to me...) that there may be something funny going on with just about a lot of samba packages out there at SuSE's. This is what I got: The package samba-client-3.0.26a-3.7 did not pass integrety check. (Or something like that, it's xlated from danish..) Any ideas as to what is going on? -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard Open Source Academy +45 56964223 Novell Certified Linux Professional 10035701 ------------------------------ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Please us the packages from the openSUSE Build Service. As 3.3.0 isn't released yet you have to use one of the TESTING repositories. See http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/samba:/TESTING/ http://en.openSUSE.org/Samba provides some additional information.
/usr/bin/ldbmodify;496dcf9b: cpio: read fail
This sounds like a broken RPM. I saw something like this the last time with a broken external hard disk I used to carry openSUSE 11.1 on.

ENO openSUSE11. There is no openSUSE 11. There is openSUSE 11.0 and openSUSE 11.1. There is SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 7, 8, 9, and 10. And the next SLE will *fanfare* 11. Why this pedantic? Using "openSUSE 11" doesn't say what is used. It could be 11.0 or 11.1.

samba:/MAINTAINED:/later/openSUSE_11.0/i586/samba-client-3.0.33-2.1.i586.rpm
samba:/MAINTAINED:/later/ is an area we use to proivide code which we the Novell Samba Team _might_ later provide as an official update to a MAINTAINED product. Only SLE based products are maintained in this sense. Should we state this more clear at http://en.openSUSE.org/Samba ?
- anyone knows anything?
I only know nothing. But I'm willing to share. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SuSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

Lars Thanks a lot for your answers.
For some odd reason I was trying to use the new 3.3 - which I shouldn't. When I pointed to the right repos and grabbed the 3.2 line of SAMBA, all was good! And...the authentication and autocreation of homedirs against a standard A/D works like a breeze. -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard Open Source Academy +45 56964223 Novell Certified Linux Professional 10035701 ------------------------------ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
