I have the same problem. I have not shut down though. No matter how

is real ugly. Can someone help?
Try to use 'runx' instead of 'startx'? This uses svgalib to restore the
registers of the graphic card. It's in the package 'svgalib'.

Bodo,
Thanks for answering our messages regarding "trashed fonts". Your remedy,
run "runx" instead of "startx" rectifies the trashed fonts and for this, I am
great-
ful and thank you.
I'm sure that you are waiting for the other shoe to drop, or a "but" and here
it is:
What I would really like to have is a solution to the problem rather than a
"Band
Aid" repair, or at least a better understanding of how the trashed font
problem
comes about.
Again I am greatful for the advice, just trying to understand the dynamics
(ie mechanism).
Hi,
I'm sorry but I'm afraid I can't give you a really deep explanation of
this behavior. AFAIK the X servers sometimes have problems to restore all
of the registers used for text mode with specail graphic cards. But I don't
know why runx works for those cards and the 'plain' Xservers doesn't.
There were a lot more cards who had these problems some time ago, and runx
was always a good tip to solve this. These days only very few people seem to
have this kind of problems.
To get more info on this, we need to have a X specialist, you can try
to contact the XFree86 team for example...
