Hi,
I'm sorry but I'm afraid I can't give you a really deep explanation of
this behavior. AFAIK the X servers sometimes have problems to restore all
of the registers used for text mode with specail graphic cards. But I don't
know why runx works for those cards and the 'plain' Xservers doesn't.
There were a lot more cards who had these problems some time ago, and runx
was always a good tip to solve this. These days only very few people seem to
have this kind of problems.
To get more info on this, we need to have a X specialist, you can try
to contact the XFree86 team for example...
