the man pages suggest: wwwoffle -O http://
the url must have been cached, ie: retrieved when you were online
Step by step it is like: 1. Just installed wwwoffle (from yast) 2. I am visiting: http://www.ThisPageIWantToSeeOfflineAlsoSinceItisRequriedOften.com 3. wwwoffle -O http://www.ThisPageIWantToSeeOfflineAlsoSinceItisRequriedOften.com (while I am visiting the page) 4. I am ready to view it offline Is it like that? 'url must have been cached' means that, while I surf, I should run that command just after surfing without clearing the history? -- THX -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

as I understand the man pages, issue: wwwoffle -O http://SomePage and it will be fetched when you go online and/or displayed when you are offline fetching it cashes it. wwwoffle allows one to request various http pages when offline, fetches (caches) them for you when your computer is online, and then they are available for you to view at your discretion. ie: 1) provide wwwoffle a group/list of pages you wish to view 2) script your computer to go online sometime (maybe at night while you sleep) and wwwoffle to fetch the pages then. 3) view the pages at your leisure. when I was on dial-up, I did something similar, especially for long downloads (programs, email, system updates, ...). note: wwwoffle provides a web access page to file your requests and to set the function time. http://localhost:8080/control ps: reading the man pages will provide you with the same information. I have never personally used this application. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I guess it would be really typical for me now (as it seems to be, also). I lastly got 'ScrapBook Plus' add-on for Firefox, I guess it would serve the purpose. -- THX -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You go with what you find functional and makes you comfortable. The firefox add-on doesn't provide all of the same functions, but perhaps the function you were seeking was not what I understood from your query. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Basically what all I wanted -- was that suppose there is not net connection. Now I wanted to visit the pages (all those) which I could have visited if net were there. So, I mean in offline, I could have visited all those sites (majority of which are having documents or related or having information on their home or 'that' particular page only) which I visit when the net is there. However, this cripples the updations, and for it again net is there -- such that in online mode it just replaces the saved/cached pages so that more recent page is available for offline mode. While on one side, wwwoffle could be a great utility but I really didn't go with it -- for understanding it would require some couple of hours and it seemed a little typical to me too (at this level of mine, being of -- THX -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Your wording seems confused ... But the real point is that wwwoffle is not magic. All it does is cache pages you have visited. If it needs more, then it needs to be on-line. I think you are confused about its purpose. It makes sense if you don't have a reliable connection, such as a walkabout netbook/tablet with wifi AND you have plenty of disk space you can devote to the cache. If you have a desktop with a reliable connection, be it cable, DSL or modem, then why bother? And if you do bother, then why not go with a well documented ('pretty pictures' and everything) caching proxy like Squid? I'm sure there's more support for something mainstream (and open source) like Squid on this forum that something obscure and poorly documented like wwwoffle. -- A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on an installment plan. --Martin Luther King, Jr. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

All I got is the add-on I am using in Firefox - ScrapBook Plus and yes it works well in openSUSE 11.4 with Firefox 7. As if now, have ignored 'wwwoffle'.

Yeah, it would be used in the future. -- THX -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
