[opensuse] where did the "encrypted home directory" option go?
I just noticed now (did not need it for a couple of years) that Leap 15 does not offer to encrypt the home partition of a new user. Yast used to offer the option and create a virtual disk image, which then was mounted as the user home in /home, using the user password for decryption. Now the only options are to encrypt the whole disk, the whole home partition or to create a separate virtual disk to be mounted by the user. Does anyone know why the encrypted home directory was removed? -- Carlos F Lange Gaúcho nas Pradarias -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

In updated release notes of Leap 15.0 I read that individual encrypted home directories are no longer supported because the packet to do that is no longer supported. -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the clarification. Out of curiosity, I checked the release notes again and I could not find anything. Do you mind pointing it out? I'm not disputing what you said, but it would be nice to have a reference for this change, so I can track the package in case it is developed again. -- Carlos F Lange Gaúcho nas Pradarias https://www.google.com/+CarlosFLange -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I do the translation of openSUSE stuff to Dutch in Weblate and came across this information there. It is not possible to see the file there, only a list of translations with percents. I can click on a language, then perhaps on "all strings", and then I can see strings one by one. Click on the arrow to see the next one. Down the page I can see something like seven strings. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

Yes, like Spanish. On top you have a number of options, choose Search. Enter encrypt in Search for, type substring, Search in source strings. Click Search, below. That should give you a few lines to inspect. -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I did search for "encrypt" in the release notes, as you suggested, and found it at the beginning, in the section about upgrades (I always skipped that part): 2.1.2 cryptconfig Has Been Removed Previous versions of openSUSE Leap supported encrypting home directories individually via cryptconfig. This feature and thecryptconfig package are not available anymore in openSUSE Leap 15.0. To encrypt user data on openSUSE Leap 15.0, encrypt the whole partition or volume which contains the home directories.
