[opensuse] Amazon Not Available on openSUSE 12.1
Hi, Until Google Music is available in Europe I purchase music from Amazon. In order to download the purchased file you need Amazon downloader which is available for openSuse 11.1 only. How to download or install Amazon downloader on openSUSE 12.1? Swapnil -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have complained about this to Amazon, with no success. If you download individual sons you do not need their crappy code. This of course comes at a higher price. I have also tried to get the downloader working on 11.4 in the past but to no avail. The downloader uses boost and although, I installed the boot libraries in the versions as provided by 11.1 the darn thing still didn't work. It got started but then always hung up after downloading 1 song, or in the middle of the first song. My e-mail exchanges with Amazon support were not very friendly to say the least. Sorry, no answer. We have some alternatives. - banshee can handle the amazon store I think in newer banshee versions. - there is commandline tool called "clamz" for downloading - I think amarok also gained amazon support recently. - and if i remember correctly you could just download the mp3s manually Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ciao, Marcus
I have had excellent results with "clamz". It is intended for full album downloads. I use it pretty much as installed but there are options available via the command line and a configuration file. I believe the docs recommended saving a copy of the downloaded file from Amazon for future need - the original is modified during the download if I remember correctly. I just click on the file and the DL starts immediately. For me I can't say I miss the Amazon downloader. Thank You Kindly! I'm using Amazon from Banshee on 12.1 and it works perfectly. And the GNOME project gets a kick-back. -- System & Network Administrator [ LPI & NCLA ] http://www.whitemiceconsulting.com OpenGroupware Developer http://www.opengroupware.us Adam Tauno Williams -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm using Amazon from Banshee on 12.1 and it works perfectly. I learned that Amarok also support Amazon so looked into it. We usually but whole album (its cheap) thus asked for it. Nice to see such projects are working.

It's not currently working in 12.1 - you can install the downloader using the wiki instructions (linked below) or by following the steps here: http://www.edv-krischer.de/wiki/linux/howto/amazon-mp3-downloader But... when you launch the downloader you get the following error: amazonmp3: symbol lookup error: amazonmp3: undefined symbol: _ZN5boost6system19get_system_categoryEv (as is documented on the howto)... I've verified the error message on my system. This is something to do with Boost Mutex... guessing.. the old version and the new version are not binary compatible... ie you're out of luck on this one unless you roll back to an old version of Boost. You may have some success with the Banshee solution documented here: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Amazon_MP3_downloader_on_openSUSE_11.2 If you're using KDE4, Amarok has an Amazon plugin that is enabled by default. Unfortunately there are a number of sites that only use Microsoft technology, so you're SOL on Linux and maybe even Mac. I try to avoid these where I can but sometimes it's just not possible, so I just use VirtualBox with an old copy of XP SP3 updated with the new IE and MP. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
