[opensuse] Print dialog as in acroread
Hello, with opensuse-13.1 the acroread PDF reader has been dropped. There was a really convenient function in the acroread print dialog: print the current view and fit it to the printable area, auto-rotating and centering it if needed. Does anybody know any program with a similar functionality? Thanks, -- Josef Wolf jw@raven.inka.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Darn tooting right it was convenient, and useful as well. There were some PDFs that I could not print with anything other than acroread. I don't know if this was deliberate on the part of the authors. -- "Now look," Forrester said patiently, "progress is an outmoded idea. We've got to be in step with the times. You can always run the Windoze version of acroread under Wine (or the commercialised, supported version by Codeweavers, Crossover Linux). -- ============================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au ============================================================== -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I use evince to print PDFs that need to be scaled to the printable area. I never found a way to mimic this functionality in Okular. -- Pablo M. Thanks for the suggestion, Pablo, at least, evince has the option to automatically scale/rotate the document-PAGES to the size/orientation of the available paper. But what I am really missing is the possibility to print the CURRENTLY VISIBLE content and scale/rotate _that_ to fit on the aavailable paper. -- Josef Wolf jw@raven.inka.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I don't see this neither in acrobat (9). what about using ksnapshot to get a screen copy then print it? jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I do. Print dialog, current page, fit to printable area under "page handling" section, then tick "autorotate and center". I'm looking at it just now.

No, you don't get it. If you capture the screen, you get screen resolution, whatever that is at that moment. If you print a PDF of text, that text is basically a vector graphic, which when printed is converted to the printer resolution, which can be orders of magnitude greater than the screen resolution. Like 1200 dots per inch of paper, compared to a total of about one thousand dots per full screen. - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Well, I see it in acrobat reader, yes. Print entry in file menu, you get a dialog. There is: Print range: Current view. - perhaps one can take a screen-shot [ say, with ksnapshot ] - next , open that screen-shot with " okular " : use okular's Zoom and Rotate functions to get size and orientation as one prefers - finally, take a second screenshot of the adjusted okular image, and, Print that final screenshot using okular ?? ............ regards -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is in the repos for PCLOS. I don't know where else you will find it. Try looking under MATE in your file manager. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

So there's no program which is able to print a specific cutout of a pdf? For sure, ghostscript is able to do that. But with gs, there's no way to select the print area graphically. -- Josef Wolf jw@raven.inka.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
