I put http://yp.shoutcast.com in the Xmms location bar but nothing plays. Shoutcast documentation says Shoutcast should work with Xmms. How do I play a given stream on Shoutcast using Suse audio tools? I tried AmaroK too. Thanks, Jerome

You need to pick one of the stations URL's On each station youhave a "tune in" button. That is a .pls file that can be opened by XMMS, or saved for future use. A shoutcast stream is usally in the form "Host:port" (ie. "http://native.screaminghost.com:8028/") (The above going to the station MODRN) -- /Rikard --------------------------------------------------------------- Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 735 05 51 01 PGP : 0x461CEE56 ---------------------------------------------------------------

Arrgh - yet another thing that doesn't work for me since I upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2. Tuning in on Shoutcast used to start XMMS. Now it starts AmoroK, which thinks that the stream is a file and simply downloads it forever without playing anything! *sob* Matthew ___________________________________________________________ Moving house? Maybe the association for .pls is wrong? Check if you can open the .pls in XMMS directly, and if so change the file association to the proper action. -- /Rikard --------------------------------------------------------------- Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 735 05 51 01 PGP : 0x461CEE56 ---------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks Rikard. Konqueror did ask me the first time whether I wanted to open it in AmaroK or not - XMMS is the default for 9.1. I trusted it and found that AmoroK didn't work. I'm very surprised they didn't test it on an audio stream before making it the default. Hardly a great advertisement for a mature operating system. Fortunately, XMMS still works - though I read in another thread that AmaroK has now been fixed too. Matthew ___________________________________________________________ Moving house? How exactly do you pick one of the stations URL's using XMMS. I can use my browser to go yp.shoutcast.com and I see a list of stations I can pick by using the "tune in" button. But XMMS allows me to enter the URL for the list of stations (yp.shoutcast.com) but doesn't allow me to "tune in" to a specific station. So how do you get XMMs to pick and play a station out of a list of stations like yp.shoutcast.com when all your given is the URL for the list of stations? Jerome

For instance "http://native.screaminghost.com:8028"
The yp.shoutcast.com is just a listing for varoious stations. Somewhat like a radio chanel listing in a newspaper. It simply states the chanels name, url and a short description of whats playing. The "Tune In" button gives a link to the coresponding station. Either "Open with XMMS" or "Save" that link and then open it with XMMS and you should be able ti listen to it in XMMS I do it on a daily basis. -- /Rikard --------------------------------------------------------------- Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 735 05 51 01 PGP : 0x461CEE56 ---------------------------------------------------------------
