[opensuse] Youtube problems
In the past week or so, I've noticed a problem with Youtube in that many videos will no longer play. I now get the dot going around in a circle, but no video. This even happens with videos I had previously watched. It happens with Firefox, Chrome and Seamonkey browsers. However, they work fine on Windows 10 in a VirtualBox VM. I'm running 42.2 & KDE and the problem happens on both my desktop and notebook computers. Has anyone else experienced this? tnx jk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I've seen this when a Website changes the codec/format for their videos. Updating/upgrading the distro worked. Since you are running the latest release, this may not be the problem. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm wondering if some recent update caused the problem. Whatever the cause, it affects 3 different browsers. Whats more, it's only some videos. Others continue to play just fine. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

(the one you said worked is vp9) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This is a very good tip. I was not aware this option exists. By the way, how can a user determine if a codec has been installed and useable? Regards. Sudhir Anand -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The codec listed on a video that doesn't play is avc1.4d400d, but vp9 on one that does. Might this be the cause? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That's normal here, but hitting the pause button then the play button usually starts play. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Well, I first noticed the issue when I came across this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8tdmaEhMHE Since I was quite familiar with the original version of the song, "One Toke Over The Line", I thought I'd play this version for a laugh (The duo signing it are obviously clueless about the lyrics). When I found it, a couple of weeks ago, it played fine. Then last week, I wanted to send it to a friend, but now it wouldn't play for me on Linux, but would on Windows. If you're not familiar with the original, you may want to play it first. Here it is and it still works for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rzqq581Q3Us After playing it, watch the other one, to see how clueless those two are. ;-) Here's another one I played recently, but no longer works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5nyALPgxro And another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcC-SbcihKI Here's another one that still works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cXrEPNvRO8 I can see no pattern here, other than they are all songs I've enjoyed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Plays fine here :-)

Oh, I just wanted some samples, I may watch the full video when I can.
Here's another one I played recently, but no longer works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5nyALPgxro
Plays fine, I think. At least the audio, fixed photo.
And another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcC-SbcihKI
Plays.
Here's another one that still works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cXrEPNvRO8
Also plays.

I'm using Leap 42.2, and Firefox 52.1.1 (64-bit) It has to be something local to you. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

I have no idea what. It happens on 2 different computers and 3 different browsers. They also work in W10, in a VM on the desktop computer, so it's not a network issue. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That it fails on several browser, including the commercial Chrome, is quite surprising. All the computers use the same desktop? Try another. If not, some codec or library used by all is broken or missing. Do you use add blockers, script blockers? Disable on youtube. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
