Hi, I've installed Suse 9.1 on my machine, and i'd like to upgrade it to 9.3. Does novell provide any means to update the linux version from 9.1 to 9.3 (9.1 to 9.2 and 9.2 to 9.3). Or I've to download complete dvd image of 9.3 only. Thanks in advance, Surya

You can try this: Click on the green SuSE K-Menu icon (ALT+F1), go to System menu and click YaST. Enter your root password. Click Change Source of Installation. Click Add->FTP. Enter the name of a server, like ftp.suse.com - you can find more servers at http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/downloads/ftp/int_mirrors.h... Enter the directory. The directory must contain YaST-readable files like "content" and "directory.yast". for example, to update your KDE to version 3.4 if you use the suse.inode.at FTP server enter this directory: /pub/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/yast-source Use Konqueror to browse the ftp and find the directories you want to download packages from. You can add as many FTP directories/servers as you want in YaST. You can also add local directories. Use the Up and Down buttons to change the order of the sources. The first is the most preferred. Use the Enable/Disable button to enable or disable a source. Save your changes. (note: if you had added a ftp dir a long time ago you need to refresh it). Now click in Yast Install and remove Software. You can use Search if you want specific packages or Package Groups and then ZZZ_All to see them all. Find the Avail.Version column and click on it. Items with the blue colour can be upgraded. Click the "Auto-check for dependencies" button and then decide which packages you want to update. If you want to update everything right-click the list and choose All In This list -> Upgrade if newer version is available. If you want specific packages right-click on them. The upgrade may not be successful in all cases and the "b" version of KDE3.4 that I downloaded has various bugs. If YaST needs packages from your SuSE9.1 CDs, just ensure the CD is in the Install Sources and insert the CD in the drive or copy it to the HDD. -- NSK http://portal.wikinerds.org

The update package is a bit cheaper, and it contains the same DVDs as the full version. You only get less paper, and 60 days installation support, instead of 90. I updated from 9.1 to 9.3 this weekend. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
