Hi everyone, How do I go back to KDE 3.1.4 or .5? I have suse 8.2 running KDE 3.2. I tried System Update in Yast, but only a few app got reverted, 3.2 is still here. I selected a source directory that containers the rpm's. Also, does anyone know where I can find 3.1.4? The mirrors don't show rpm's for suse 8.2 for that version anymore. Thanks, Jim Flanagan

First, you need to set up a Yast source pointing to the 3.1.4 packages. I suggest trying ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/suse/i386/9.0 even thought it's 9.0 and not 8.2; the 8.2 directories will take you back to 3.1.1. Do a test retrieval without actually changing anything to make sure that it works. Next, as root do "init 3" to get yourself out of X and KDE and into a text console. Next, call Yast2 in text mode. Delete all the KDE 3.2 packages you can find. Next, (while still in text mode Yast2) add back all the kde 3.1.4 packages. Also delete the contents of the /tmp directory. Now you can do an init 5 to get back into KDE. If your experience is like mine, you'll find a bunch of packages that are working badly or not at all. For each of these, try to locate the corresponding configuration file and delete it. (It's got 3.2 stuff in it that's confusing KDE 3.1.4.) When you restart kde, it will rebuild the configuration files with sane defaults. Paul Abrahams

That's not terribly brilliant. KDE is linked against libcrypto, libcrypto in 8.2 was 0.9.6, in 9.0 it's 0.9.7 so it would get pulled in (otherwise a lot in the 9.0 kde wouldn't work), which would cause several 8.2 packages to fail. You can get it to work, but it would be a head ache. I wouldn't advise it unless you really know what you're doing ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/kde/stable/3.1.5/SuSE/ix86/8.2/ is probably a better bet
Is this an official mirror? Such that I would not break the system to use it as an alternative when doing an Yast Online Update CWSIV On Thu, 2004-02-19 at 20:48, Anders Johansson wrote: <SNIP>

Thanks for the great info! That's exactly what I needed. The FTP source does not work on my system, but I had already downloaded the 3.1.5 rpm's. I had never run yast in init 3 before. Absolutely great! Thanks again. Jim Flanagan
