kscd without the little cable
Where is the setting to tell kscd he should play CDs directly instead of with the little tiny cable between sound card and CD reader? -- ====================================================== Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) ====================================================== "Greater coherence cannot be achieved. Well, I'm not going mad! There is no "direct digital" setting in the configure GUI; audio backend and audio device are greyed out. This is with a SoundBlaster Audigy. -- ====================================================== Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) ====================================================== "Greater coherence cannot be achieved. SUSE 9.3 [sic], KDE 3.4. This worked fine in 9.2. -- ====================================================== Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) ====================================================== "Greater coherence cannot be achieved. I see the same thing in 9.3. The kscd.kcfg file defines the config setting, so I'm not immediately sure why it's not visible in the config, I'd have to look at the source, but I think you can get around it by adding [GENERAL] DirectPlayback=true in the file $HOME/.kde/share/config/kscdrc

in the file $HOME/.kde/share/config/kscdrc In mine (9.2 ,KDE 3.4), it is DigitalPlayback=true -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

Oops, yes, you're right, my mind thought one thing but my fingers typed another :). Sorry
Still doesn't work. Checkbox still doesn't appear after this edit. "Select audio backend" is blank, but not greyed out. Set "Select audio device" to /dev/dsp. Further edited kscdrc to set audio system to arts, no joy. -- ====================================================== Glenn Holmer (Linux registered user #16682) ====================================================== "Greater coherence cannot be achieved. Stupid suggestion maybe - but i once had the same issue. KSCD disallows to change this setting when a cd is loaded and this is done automatically by SuSE. When you remove the cd's and restart kscd you can change it. Peter Vollebregt

OK, I'll have to look deeper then. I remember this issue being up once before, it's not 9.3 specific I don't think. And I vividly remember digging through the source to find the solution (which I did, IIRC), but I can't for the life of me remember what it was
