Hello All, I have been playing around with the $PATH variable in Suse for a while, and there were some things that really bugged me: 1) How do I set the $PATH so that I could do a export PATh=$PATH:/blah without it disappearing after I logout or restart SUSE? I know that doing this as a local user is easy but I would like to do it as root, and would like all my users to have a customized general $PATH variable. Ie. which file do i have to modify so that everyone will have the same customized $PATH? 2.) $JAVA_HOME. I also had a computer that was running 7.3, upgraded to 8.0. The JRE /SDKis outdated and I can run some of the java programs that run on 1.3 +. I installed JRE 1.3. Since the PATh is still set to the old version of JRE, I still can't run the java programs without explicitly writing the 1.3 directory in the command line. I tried removing the old java, but it was still looking for the old java. I also tried modifying JAVA_HOME ... with the newer JRE but I got errors that said "Couldn't find java, javac etc" Has anyone dealt with this problem? If yes, what's a way to get around it? Thanks, I appreciate the help. Christine

/etc/profile.local

Easiest way is to symlink your java's lib directory to /usr/lib/java Charles -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+JxWS3epPyyKbwPYRAiEsAJ9vfYg0mGT4zhKPgnXTM4ZZMzok+wCfQ5Rh kUxtRvJmgPBGRMcrDVZ0iB8= =ykTC -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Have you looked at the scripts in /etc/java? -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
