There is a problem with the X server that I cannot quite nail down. After rebooting the Xserver comes up fine and I get the normal kdm login screen. But when I log out, the X-server does not restart properly and I am left with a frozen black screen. I can still use the text consoles f1-f6. I can go back to level 3, which frees the graphic terminal, but after that the X server won't come up any more. Switching sessions instead of logging out gives the same result. The Xorg.0.log suggests to disable autoadddevice, but that disables ALL hotplugging too, so that is no viable option.
Since this machine is used by several people this is a nuisance, because every user switch now requires a reboot. Ideas anyone? I have the old sax2 xorg.conf still at my disposal. Should I take the Monitor and screen sections from that conf file? Since structure has been totally changed I do not like very much meddling in what I do not know.
Regards,
Are there any clues in dmesg, /var/log/messages or /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
dmesg and Xorg.0.log give nothing special. /var/log/messages has a line that might be at the heart of this:
Sep 12 12:46:07 pavilion102 polkitd(authority=local): Unregistered Authentication Agent for session /org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session1 (system bus name :1.29, object path /org/kde/PolicyKit1/AuthenticationAgent, locale nl_NL@euro)
This is a line that appeared after I logged out of a kde session. I'll investigate further. Thanks so far.
I'd also have a look in openSUSE's bugzilla for 11.3 - perhaps someone's already raised a similar issue? -- Regards, Vadym -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
