Hi Sorry if this is too much of a newbie question. I've found the locations of the various mirrors, how do I point yast to one of them to download updates etc.? I've found most of the suse functions, its not so dissimilar to the mandriva releases, apart from some bit actually work ! TIA Richard -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Thanks I've tried that and compared to mandriva , suse get nil points for being intuitive on what to enter for the server and the directory. Thanks also to Lennart who posted the wiki url, but that refers to the older version of yast. Example for the server I've entered anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/suse/ and the directory /update/10.1/rpm/ That fails and gets changed to suse//update/10.1/rpm/ take out one of the forward slashes and then get "unable to create installation source" maybe I've been spoilt by Mandriva's easy urpmi site, which is near idiot proof.. Could someone give an example of what should be entered in the server and directory space. But don't forget that sometimes some idiots are quite smart :-) .
Could someone give an example of what should be entered in the server and directory space.
In this case, the server name is: anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk and the directory is: /suse/update/10.1/rpm Note that there is *no* ending "/" after the "rpm". The TYPE of the new entry when you are about to create one -ie, whether HTTP or FTP for example - is what appears before the "://" at the beginning of the URL name (eg, http://pacman.iu-bremen.de/suse/10.1"). A hint: if you are having trouble with a new entry being accepted (by You for example) then fire up your browser and enter the name manually as an URL. If you don't get to your URL then there is something wrong with its name - it could be as simple as a typo or as "complex" as the URL being removed and replaced by a new server name. I also on the pull down from the "ADD" tab selected "url", instead of "FTP" ,and pasted in the above pacman url, and its barfed again with "unable to create installation source" BTW the anorien url is valid, this pasted from firefox:- ftp://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/suse/update/10.1/rpm/ which I have tried pasting in as a url without the trailing forward slash. And that fails the same :(

Well, I just added this source to my catalogue and it was accepted - but with the message that the site failed the checksum test and did I want to use it anyway (to which I answered YES). I added it as an FTP site, with the server being "packman...... " AAH, S**T! :-) . I made a typo in that name! :-) . It should read pacKman and not pacman :-( . So try adding it again but not as an URL but as an FTP site.

Yep, I can't have it accepted either. Go to- http://en.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version and find a Mirror that you like. At the start of this URL's page there is the entry Released Version, click on it and be taken to another page giving the sources you can use to update. (If you feel less masochistic about updating 10.1 then you can use smart updater, and you will find this at- http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-navigation.php?cat=/System/smart You don't need the file with "debuginfo" in the name. One of the packages contains preconfigured sources to update 10.1 but you need to activate some of them. More info about smart is on its home page. I am using it - and many others here. If you decide to use smart, first uninstall smart if you have installed it as part of the 10.1 installation and then install the 5 rpms of 0.42.) richard bown wrote: really gurt big snip At last the update and the source you listed have entered OK. After I removed the high speed NIC, which is not functioning. It's a D-Link 530T 1GB/s 32 bit card, it was working on Mandriva 2006, but refused on MDV2007. Suse10.1 is recognising the card, but wont allow it to be configured as eth1, it want to list it as eth-<bus address>...........WeirdThanks for

Further to my reply, there is no such source as "anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/suse/update/10.1/rpm ". Try entering this as an URL in a browser and see where it gets you :-( .
