[opensuse] 10.3 + Truecrypt 6.3: hangs on hibernate
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Greetings! On OpenSuSE10.3, with Truecrypt 6.3, when a truecrypt volume is mounted and the system is going to hibernate, it hangs at or immediately after "suspending tasks...". This only occurs when I forget to unmount any truecrypt volume before hibernating the system. There doesn't seem to be any scripts associated with suspend/hibernate. Is there another way to automatically get truecrypt volumes unmounted before suspend/hibernate? Does truecrypt has support? :-? A forum, a faq?

You can add your scripts in /etc/pm/sleep.d/ - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Well... Probably a forum. no mention in the faq about hangs except forthe wwarning about problems with older kernels. The binary provides ample and repeated warnings about it having problems with older kernels, too, which is very likely the case here--but I haven't tried hibernate on 11.2 with truecrypt volumes mounted yet.

erm, don't have /etc/pm/ on this box. I'll fix that... I didn't notice you were using such and old version as 10.3. Then, perhaps you should use an older version of truecrypt, too.

Well, 10.3 used a different procedure, so don't create that directory because it will not work. It will be somewhere under /etc/, powersomething perhaps. At some time there was a configuration file in which services to be stopped were listed, perhaps in /etc/sysconfig - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. The default format used in 6.3 is not supported by older versions and there are a few dire warnings about using older versions and formats. Despite the kernel version warning it Just Plain Works(tm), so long as I don't forget to unmount before starting to hibernate. The most serious problem so far is that hibernate hangs--no data loss or filesystem corruption AFAICT, but it does use up the battery and it takes a long time to restart. It should be OK until I can get the 11.2 image updated and stabilized.

I didn't find anything relevant in /etc/sysconfig. If it's somewhere else, it's trying not to be found or something. :) Apparently the directories under /etc/pm are supposed to exist. I dug them out of an older backup and it's empty, except for other empty directories: $ls -Fc1 /etc/pm config.d/ power.d/ README.update sleep.d/ So I'll try putting the script into sleep.d and see what happens and hopefully nothing else needed is missing. Ah.
So I'll try putting the script into sleep.d and see what happens and hopefully nothing else needed is missing.
Then, you might have some scripts in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/ that you can take as the basis for your's.
Thanks again!

... I'm using truecrypt on notebook with oS 11.1 and "suspend to disk" always worked fine for me. After reading your mail I re-checked the version and found it was 6.1a, so I installed 6.3a and tried "suspend to disk" with 2 mounted truecrypt volumes. It powered off successfully and after restart truecrypt volumes were accessible. Not sure it helps you in case of 10.3, just some information in case you are considering upgrade. I'm using truecrypt on notebook with oS 11.1 and "suspend to disk" always worked fine for me. Hi: Yes, there's no problem with truecrypt 6.3a and 11.1 on most boxes. I doubt you got a warning about kernel bugs from truecrypt. The kernel in 10.3 is just old enough to qualify for that warning. The kernel handles truecrypt volumes very differently beginning in 11.1.
Not sure it helps you in case of 10.3, just some information in case you are considering upgrade.
I won't be using 11.1: it doesn't install. 11.2 installs OK. It even has a lot of the same (missing||buggy||annoying) features as 10.3 so I'm sure I'll feel quite comfy with it.
