Is there a way to set up 8.1 as a print server and not use samba? Hans hans007@prexar.com registered Linux user 289023 "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin

Is there a way to set up 8.1 as a print server and not use samba? Samba is only necessary when you are providing services for Windows clients. There is a great deal of documentation on LinuxPrinting.org (http://www.linuxprinting.org/) about how to set things up both to use your system as a server and to be able to print to it from other Unix/Linux systems. Also, check out the Unofficial SuSE FAQ (http://susefaq.sourceforge.net/).

Just to add one point- You can setup "cups" to be a print server for your network. You can print to it from windows, it has nothing to do with samba... -j
