Booting from CD-ROM : How do I tell SuSE 8.1 to do it ?
Hello, I just installed Mondo Rescue on my SuSE 8.1 linux box. I've created a boot disk using Mindi. How do I tell SuSE that I want to use the CD-ROM to boot rather then the hard disk? My linux is on a dual boot (Win2000) notebook and the boot order in the Win2000 BIOS config tool is: CD-ROM Hard disk floppy So I thought I'm good to go. No joy ... -Douglass Turner Þessi póstur var sendur með vefpósti mi, http://www.mi.is

You don't: you tell your bios. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
The boot order in your BIOS is as I would expect. The first boot message you should see is the CDROM and if your CDROM is bootable it should boot from it. I suspect that the CDROM you are using is not bootable, in which case it would try the HD next. You must have booted up SuSE from CD initially (can't remember if there is a floppy boot or if you can install dual boot from Windows), in either case, you should be able to put SuSE CD1 in and boot off that. I've booted SuSE, RedHat and Mandrake from CD, even on a P150 laptop. Regards Sid. Douglass Turner wrote:

Whoops, False alarm. I see when I did the burn of the .iso file I incorrectly copied it instead of burning it in the Nero finder. My bad. Thanks, Douglass Turner
