[opensuse] Konqueror sends CPU load to 100% with 996.4 KB html file
I recently downloaded a tutorial from blender.org, in order to learn Blender usage. This tutorial file, when opened with Konqueror, sends CPU load to 100% until Konqueror is turned off. The same file, opened with Firefox or Epiphany, does not load the CPU abnormally. I suspect a bug, but would appreciate some input from someone with more knowledge than I have, before filing a report. Please reply directly to me, as well as the list. I am now receiving only about 10% of mail from the list, and have to go to the archives for the rest. I'm not sure direct replies will come through any better, but it's worth a try. Send a link or post the source code of the page(preferred) of the prolematic file so I/someone can try it. I have had this happen to me and it is usually caused by some javascript code that is not behaving very well but Konqueror would display a message letting you stop it. Please, don't! Don't sent a one megabyte file to the list. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Yeah I did not pay attention to the number of numbers just the KB part. Just send us a link. Thanks, George

To George and Carlos, and the list, This is the link to the file: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Printable_Version And, yes I was pretty sure 1 meg was too large to send directly to the list. I do understand your apprehensions though. I pulled your responses from the archives; they haven't arrived here yet. Java script had crossed my mind (there's a lot there), that's why I tried it in the other browsers. But, I didn't see why Konqueror would be the only one to react this way. Thanks for the quick response, -- -- ED -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Konqueror's javascript implementation is not very good, compared to other browers. It is generally slow, and prone to consume huge amounts of CPU -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I looked exclusively at the User process, since it seemed to vary the most... I loaded it with Konqueror and watching the KDE process table, it never went more than 87.07%. However, even after the page was loaded, Konqueror hovered at around 64%. Prior, Konqueror - with several windows open - was at 1%. I closed that page, and Konqueror dropped back to around 1.5% Opera ran the page for the most part peaking only at 11.0%. However, right towards, the end, it jumped to 93% then 98% for about a second. Firefox 1.5 loaded the page peaking at 21%. It never went above that number. Firefox 2.0 loaded the page with a peak at 66% and several instances of 20%. Seems like Konqueror has some interesting issues with that page. Of course, the page is HUGE and should not be allowed to continue. I looked for whom to send a complaint, but found no one. I expect the page should be split up into smaller chunks. It has got to take forever on a dial-up connection. -- kai www.perfectreign.com || www.4thedadz.com a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK I downloaded the page (complete) with Firefox and openned with Konqueror 3.5.1 (Using KDE 3.5.1 Level "a" SUSE 10.1) and the system cpu usage went up to 51-54% when I close the file it goes back to normal. Firefox has no problems whatsoever. As mentioned before Konqi has some problems with larger html files and JavaScript so it is not the best browser but for all the other things it does so well it is an excellent tool. My advise in this case is use a different browser to view the file I hope that is not a problem you have at least 3 or 4 you can use with no problem. Please report this at http://bugs.kde.org (Product konqueror, component javascript) Note that since it's easily reproducible and does not trigger Konqueror's busy-javascript freeze detector so it should be of interest to the Konqueror developers. regards Will -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Thanks to all, I will file a bug report, as Will suggested.
Please reply directly to me, as well as the list. I am now receiving only about 10% of mail from the list, and have to go to the archives for the rest.
(I still haven't received any mail on this thread except for my own posts. But that is an improvement.) -- -- ED -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
