[opensuse] GUI frontend for MSSQL and other DBs
Hi, what are your recommendations for a simple GUI which may execute and list results from SQL queries, send to MS SQL server? Something like MySQL's Query browser, or MS's own Enterprise manager. I do not need something fancy, I need to be able to run queries, and view the results. Cheers Sunny -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Even the most advanced equipment in the hands of the ignorant is just a pile of scrap. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

- - DbVisualizer: http://www.minq.se/products/dbvis/
* excellent
* not opensource but has a (very capable) freeware version
- - Squirrel SQL: http://www.squirrelsql.org/
* not near as fancy as DbVisualizer but still does its job well
* GPL/LGPL
Download a type 4 (pure java) JDBC driver for MS SQL, e.g. here:
http://jtds.sourceforge.net/
Note, I'm using DbVisualizer a lot at work (and occasionally Squirrel),
but luckily I don't have to work with MS SQL - tested thoroughly with
PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle and DB2 though.
Hope this helps.
cheers

A really good cross platform tool is aqua data studio from aquafold.com it works with SQL Server when you have to use it ;) George -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
George:
All the Java IDEs have that capability by default. You can get
NetBeans and JDeveloper downloads. Eclipse must surely have a module
that can do it if you want to go through their module hell. But
NetBeans has it by default. Just install the JDBC driver for your
database and away you go.

Java source code IDEs you mean?

They have some capabilities yes but not as many as this one I think.

I like NetBeans too :)

Hi George:
Well, all Sunny asked for was to enter a query and see the result.
NetBeans does that very nicely (and much more) for any database with a
JDBC driver.

Of course, I'm not claiming it's a light weight solution! :)

That is true anyone of the once you mentioned should do fine with just returning results. George -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I used Squirrel as well for a time. It does a nice job of handling MSSQL, MySQL, Derby and Access (blech!) databases. -- kai www.perfectreign.com || www.4thedadz.com a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
