Hi Everybody. I've got a SuSE system sitting next to a Debian system and I'd like to be able to switch between them with a KVM switch. I've been through two Belkin switches which have both failed. Can anyone give me a recommendation on a worthwhile KVM switch that wont crap-out in short order? aTdHvAaNnKcSe -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK - IGNORE FULLWISE -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

I am using one by IO Gear. I don't know the exact model, but I have been using it for a very long time and picked it up at Best Buy for about $60. It's fully USB for all connections, and even has the audio splitter to go with it.... Seems to work for me..

I've mostly heard bad things about Belkin KVMs.

I'll second this. I've used a variety of IOGEAR's KVMs, including a DVI+USB one to switch a flat-panel display between my Linux box and my iMac. They've all worked well and given good signal (image) quality. The DVI was one of the more affordable models I could find (none of which are cheap). I'll third it. I've had an IOGEAR KVM for over 3 years and never had any problem with it. I finally ordered the 8-port Iogear KVM I talked about previously on the list. Should be here next week. I'll let the list know how it works. Just came across this e-mail and realized I never followed up. I have had the 8-port Iogear KVM for over a month now. It has been a problem free experience. Highly recommended. One issue. My local Fry's sold it without cables for the same price as the various web-pages had it with cables. Would have been a costly mistake to buy it from Fry's. I bought an I/O Gear mini kvm from Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2470632 The web site shows $32.87 and "online only," but my local Walmart had it in the store for $24.95. My local Radio Shack had it for $30.00. I have 3 of these and I have been very happy with them. I find the NovaView ones to be excellent. They're not the cheapest, but quality stuff. Ever thought about using a remote desktop? You don't need a KVM that way. You can simply switch between desktops, without any additional hardware.
