Hi, I recently installed SuSE 8.1 on my system. Everything works great except for my Canon Multipass C3500 printer. YAST2 detects it alright. I went through the KPrinter config stuff and that seems to be OK too. All I want is to print monochrome using the parallel port. The ppd file was generated OK and the bjc600 print driver is resident on my computer. So, what's the problem? When I try to print a test page or from the console, the print job shows it printing but no output comes out the printer. I joined the cups mailing list, but I didn't get any response. Since I am new to linux and cups, I don't know where to begin to diagnose the problem. I've read the documentation but everything I've tried doesn't work. Are there any config files I need to look at or other admin programs/commands I need to run? Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bill Porada

Is the Canon Multipass C3500 a GDI printer? I didn't think it was based on the documentation I got from SuSE, but maybe their list wasn't complete. I didn't think that linux supported many GDI printers. Am I mistaken? Also, the filter link you provided says to rpm the filter update if you have 8.1 Personal. I have 8.1 Professional. Is that going to cause a problem? Thanks for your input. Let me know before I try to proceed with this. Your input is greatly appreciated. -Bill On Tuesday 26 November 2002 18:31, DJ wrote:

I had a similar symptom with 8.1. We installed the rpm package filter as mentioned in the SuSE support database and all is great (see links below).

Good luck.
I ran the rpm update with YAST for my printer. From YAST, I tried the test page. Nothing appears in the job queue. If I configure the printer in KPrinter, the job shows up in the queue but shows "0" pages and no printer output occurs. If I create a text file and print from the console, nothing shows up in the queue. If I go into OpenOffice and try to print a sample page using KPrinter, I get the job showing up in the queue and still no output. In Kprinter, I selected all kinds of filters. Is that appropriate or should I only have one shown in the list? I think there is something more involved going on here. I need some help with this. -Bill On Tuesday 26 November 2002 18:31, DJ wrote:
