Hi, I have SuSE 8.1 and updated it just lastnight from the ftp server. I am trying to install GPA, from source, and get this error checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.1... no Could not run GTK test program. may want to edit gtk-config Seems to me, GPA can't find GTK in the path. How do I over come this? I installed a new gtk-config, reinstalled GTK+ and gtk devel but still get these errors. I also tried to install Mixmaster, but it complained about needing Openssl 0.9g, I installed it from source, and worked just fine, then discovered the openssl rpm was already installed. So that tells me Mixmaster could not fine the already installed openssl. === Best Regards, Bruce

In the directory where you're trying to compile there should be a file config.log. That should have all error messages from the configure script, which should tell you why it fails

Was openssl-devel installed? Anders
Here is part of my config.log where I think the error is:

I would say this is the error, yes. Do you have the file /usr/include/gtk-1.2/gtk/gtk.h on your system? In my 8.1 it is provided by gtk-devel.rpm. It's also a little suspicious that it's looking in the directory /usr/include/gtk-1.2.1. Have you installed something manually? gtk in 8.1 is 1.2.10, so if you've installed 1.2.1 it would be a downgrade, I think. Anders

Second reading: the first time I read the above as gtk-1.2 for some reason. This is definitely the error. You've installed gtk-config from some other source, and it's looking in the wrong directories for the include files. Reinstall gtk-devel from the SuSE CDs and you should be ok
