Concerning the Loki games issues you may be having, it often relates as much to the shell environ (and the changes therein) as well as X and certain libs. One issue is that the install routines will need certian exec flags in the newer versions of Linux that weren't an issue when the game was ported.
I've found that for the titles that I have they install in 10.0 and 9.3 but seg-fault. I see there's something on source forge about patching the games. I hope it's that simple
I can't remember, but games like Heritic II for linux and especially with Myth II certain tweaks of one sort or another had to be applied. With Myth2 there was a shell flag one had to issue in order to install it in newer version of Linux (I think an X parameter or similar IIRC). Then there's the video card issues at the time and early Loki games and a different Vid Card market at the time. If you search Google/Linux you can find old posts about some of these issues and you might be able to find patches as well (Snufflelupaguss where are you :/ ).
I've got a few titles running on a 9.1 system with newer video drivers.
Cheers, Curtis.
Thanks for the ideas. I'll let you know what fun I'm having if any. Mike
