[SuSE Linux] [Fwd: [WM] 0.19.0]
Any WindowMaker users will find this of interest. This is a MAJOR release, lots of new features as WindowMaker approaches version 1.0. Anyone interested in trying it for the first time can find the new release at the official ftp (<A HREF="ftp://ftp.windowmaker.org/pub/beta/srcs"><A HREF="ftp://ftp.windowmaker.org/pub/beta/srcs</A">ftp://ftp.windowmaker.org/pub/beta/srcs) or there's a local copy on my site.

WindowMaker 0.19.0 is out!!!
NEW FEATURES:
* Yoav's patch was included so, people with cool machines, like SGIs and Super-Ultra-Hyper-Sparcs now can run X in the normal default visual of 8bpp/PseudoColor. WindowMaker will automatically use 24bpp if it finds it.
* Beta release of the preferences program. This is not yet complete, but is usable. Note that it's not very well tested, so BACKUP YOUR CONFIGURATION FILES before using it. If WPrefs.app screws your configuration and you did not BACKUP YOUR CONFIGURATION FILES, I'm sorry but I can't do anything... This is a great step toward completion of WindowMaker, as total GUI configuration is one of the goals of WindowMaker. But it's still under development and probable buggy, so BACKUP YOUR CONFIGURATION FILES. I warned you... For people playing with WINGs, it can be a good source of examples for coding with WINGs.
* Balloons! (aka tooltips) for window titles that don't fully fit on the titlebar, miniwindow titles, appicons and the workspace name in the clip.
* IconPosition (aka iconbox) for positioning icons vertically/horizontally in any of the 4 corners of the screen.
* EmulateAppIcon. It will make a single window act as a nice application, making an appicon for it. Note that this can have problems with some applications. See the attributes panel.
* Definitive clip design. I said DEFINITIVE. Any complaints directed to me will be >/dev/null
* Lots-o bug fixes, including a memory leak.
* Upgraded libPropList. This time it's really a new version. The former times I forgot replacing the package with the new one... Hehe... ^_^;
Note for rpm, deb, whatever package makers: please do not chop your WindowMaker distribution into a gazillion pieces. Distribute *all* the stuff needed to run wmaker (including WPrefs.app) in a single package. It doesn't make any sense to separate them because everybody will download all packages anyway. Exception is made for eventual distribution of stuff needed to compile against WINGs et al. But, the libraries should be all distributed in the same package.

Well, I just grabbed mine and will have it on board shawtly. I think Alfredo's advice on back-ups should be duly noted. I didn't really expect to see another new release announcenment in my mailbox this fast. Wasn't 18.1 just last week?? On Mon, 31 Aug 1998, Michael Lankton wrote:
