[SLE] Strange problem in KDE
Hello all ! I have a strange problem in KDE on SUSE 6.4. In a console application ( konsole, xterm, kvt ...) if I give a command like this : echo $PATH I receive a list with all directories in path. If I make the same thing in Alt+F2 command window ( echo $PATH > a_file ) the answer is other ( the list of directories contain just the standard bin's directories ). Why KDE don't use the PATH variable ? If I try to make a link on the desktop to a application (the path to executable exist in PATH !!) doesn't work only if I specify the full path. Can anybody help me ? It is simpler then you think. Quiz of the week: What shell do you use if you run a echo $PATH > a_file from alt-f2 ? Think about it. Thanks for your answer but I don't understand in which mode I can solve the problem. I append the PATH in profile.local file. My shell is bash. This see the corect PATH . When I try too see which shell is launched in alt+F2 window I receive the same answer : bash. Why this bash can't see the PATH from /etc/profile.local file ? Thanks in advance ! Crosby.

Apparently is doesn't read /etc/profile.local! Have you checked the manpages for bash? ...and checked the stuff about --login? I think not... Again: "Think about it". If you read that stuff, you probably come up with more solutions :-) Really! HTH Koos Pol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- S.C.
