[SLE] Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro
Hi all, here's a compatibility question - I've checked the cdb, and there's no mention of the above keyboard. http://www.logitech.com/uk/keyboards/kb91_100.html This could be a nice Christmas present - if it works. It's a nice split 'natural' keyboard, with one of those gourgeous contoured Logitech mice. It's wireless as well. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work with Linux, but I thought I might check. So, is anyone using the above keyboard/mouse with Linux? Hi all, In addition to recompiling your kernel to support : CONFIG_IRDA, you will need the Linux/IrDA-Utils, which contains irkbd. I ould not find any information about that specific keyboard, but the again you could writeh the how-to if you get it working. :) You might want to read the /usr/linux/src/Documentation/networking/irda.txt, theIR how to at ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO and the Linux IR Project at http://www.cs.uit.no/linux-irda/howto.html. I had heard that the IR protocol for linux is lacking. Anyone else know for sure? James -- _________________________________________________________ James F. Sorry, a bit of clarification is in order. Although this is a cordless keyboard, it isn't IrDA, it uses digital radio I think. All self contained, so it plugs into a PS/2 or AT port on the back of the computer (or PS/2 or Serial for the mouse). Sorry for the confusion, and thanks anyway for the advice, could be useful for anyone stuggling with IrDA, or even if I start playing with anything IrDA ;-) Oh, BTW, I haven't bought this yet, just testing the water (but this looks like the one I want...). Hello Chris, I've been using the cordless mouseman pro since it came out with no problems. Just plug into the PS/2 port, choose PS/2 as your mouse protocol and you are good to go. The receiver translates everything to the proper protocol so there is no compatibility problems with the mouse. I would 'think' the keyboard would be the same. Hope this helps, Mike On Tue, Nov 30, 1999 at 08:23:08PM +0000, Chris Reeves wrote:

Now hang on a second; the wireless mice (though operating through an Ir link) are not IrDA devices. Are you sure about all of this? The mice (at least the ones I was looking at) plug into the standard PS/2 port, and function as a regular mouse. I've yet to see a case with an IrDA port on the front of it, so I don't see much point in making an IrDA keyboard. The wireless mice/keyboards (not Logitech units, admittedly) that we used at my college were just as I've described, come to think of it... -- -=|JP|=- (Resident GNUbie) Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
