[opensuse] FTP question.
Hi all... My new web site hoster uses "WS-FTP" to upload to my site. It is only for W$, what should I use with Linux? Thanks, JIM -- Jim Hatridge Linux User #88484 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You mean, to upload to the site from a linux client? Naturally scp would be the best bet, but if ftp access is all they offer, any linux ftp client will work. ncftp can be easily scripted to upload files, or even plain old ftp with the right command line options. If you want a GUI ftp client, gftp and others work well, and there is even a beta of filezilla 3.0 for linux. [1], [2], [4], you don't always need the newest versions. Acceptable ones come with SUSE.

Don't know what you "should" use, but for this type of thing I use mc's built-in FTP function, and put the frequented host in its hotlist for quick and easy access. -- "Let your conversation be always full of grace." konq works well with ftp. Just use: ftp://username@yoursite.com Then enter your password. Then just drag and drop. You could also host your own site using SuSE. It's a lot easier. ROTFL! I'm sure someone will provide the answer for you. I personally just use Konqueror, which works fantastic. For example, to access my perfectreign site, I use ftp://myusername@ftp.perfectreign.com I store the password in Kwallet. I'm laughing because I'm having an issue at work trying to setup an inter-agency FTP. Unfortunately the FTP host is running Windows Workstation 2003, so they require WS-FTP to even host files, apparently. They've been trying to get the thing open, using some funky port number, for several weeks. I'm just sitting by and laughing at the whole business. -- kai - theperfectreign@yahoo.com www.perfectreign.com || www.4thedadz.com www.filesite.org || www.donutmonster.com wo ist der ort für den ehrlichsten kuss ich weiss, dass ich ihn für uns finden muss... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
