starting apache 1 @ boot time
Hi list! I want to start apache at boot time. Where do I have to change? In redhat I had a thing called services where I could specify which services should run. I cannot find it here. I understood that I need to make an entry for apachectl in a script rc.local, but I cannot find it :(. Another question: is apache 1 (from Suse 8.2) coming with php 4 preinstalled? I have started apache 2 and there was no php at all :(. Thank you, Sourian
On suse 8.x as root do the following # chkconfig apache on ( mind you this would not start apache) To start it by hand # /etc/init.d/apache start On previous versions of suse vi /etc/rc.config and search for HTTP and set that variable to "yes" and then say /etc/init.d/apache start That should do the trick.. Dont know about what comes with PHP.. I use Apache 1.3.xx and that comes with PHP support.. I just used the RPMs from the distro and used yast to install them and it worked.. please be sure to select the relevant packages (mod_php_*) Vishal Sourian wrote:

I am currently using 8.1( my 8.2 should be here tomorrow ----- ;)). Do the following: YaST2 Control Center ---------> System ------------> Runlevel Editor ------------> Runlevel Properties button. Find the apache string, and then set it to activate via the Set/Reset pull-down menu. Choose Enable this service. It should set the httpd service to runlevels 3 and 5. As for PHP in Apache2, i don't believe that the PHP module has been released to the public yet. I may be wrong, but i don't think that there currentlyis an equivalent to mod_php4 in Apache2 yet. A PHP4 module for Apache2 has been released, but it is still declared as "experimental" by its developers. It is included as a package on 8.2 under name apache2-mod_php4. Peter

You can use PHP with Apache 2. It is not yet recommended if you have a public web server, but for home use, edit /etc/sysconfig/apache2 and add php4 in the line that contains APACHE_MODULES=" ... " Then restart apache2 or reboot. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
