[SLE] loading ssci modules for scanner via modules.conf
Hi everyone, I have set my UMAX Astra 2200 scanner under Suse 6.3 yet I have one small step left. That is loading the scsi module automatically thru the modules.conf file. When I read the Scanner under Linux titled document in the support database of suse I thought ok, I solved it. However there is a small confusion. I am using a IDE-ATAPI CDWriter which is ide-scsi emulation. The kernel has already generic scsi support and finds my cd-writer csi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices scsi : 1 host. Vendor: RICOH Model: CD-R/RW MP7060A Rev: 1.70 Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02 scsi : detected 1 SCSI generic total. however my umax scanner is not found. That is not a big problem because I want to access the scanner when the ened arises and if that module is installed when I want and removed when I am done I think that is better. part 5 of the document suggests using a pre-install followed by post-install line added to the modules.conf pre-install sg modprobe advansys (in my case that should be tmscsim) alias char-major-21 sg post-install sg echo "add single device 1 0 1 0" >/proc/scsi/scsi (in my case that would be 1 0 5 0) Here is the part I don't understand, if I have already the generic scsi support in the kernel and I am able to use the cdwriter what I understand is I have sg module already. when I tried the above xsane says no scanning device available. What am I missing any ideas thx -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Then you should be able to run your scanner. Mind you, it need to be on on bootup to be recognised. (There is a tool about to rescan the SCSI bus) You wouldn't need the "modprobe" and conf.modules stuff. Juergen

This is the part. I do not want the scanner on all the time I just want to use it when I need it. Hence I thought of using the modules.conf and getting the scanner running when I want to scan. Thx
