Good Morning all I trying to make MP3s from CDROMs. IM not sure what program to use (which is the most popular)... IVe found GRIP online and included on the install cds. My problem is GRIP reports "no disk detected" There wasnt much in the grip docs except "the user needs access to the device" Ive changed perms in the propertices but still dosnt see the CDROM. ANy ideas ? What is the most popular program and any other feedback people may have Thanks rob -- Sex is the mathematics urge sublimated. -- M. C. Reed.
Are you trying to use an audio CD or a CDROM with mp3 files on it? GRIP will only (IIANM) read audio CD's. You should mount a CDROM as normal, then just copy the files... Dylan On Sunday 29 September 2002 17:11, robert73 wrote:

KsCD plays cds fine rob This is an audio cd, as far as I can tell, GRIP does the mounting... GRIP is saying "disk not detected" From what I gather (GRIP docs) insert a CD the tracks appear, you select t he track and then choose rip. Apparently GRIP is alos a player, but again it dosnt see my drive.

First, I assume you want to make mp3s from Audio-CDs :-). What you said would really be hard:-)) OK, let's go to work. Start the konqueror, click Window- show navigation panel. Then go for 'services', the little hammer, on my box (KDE 3.0.3) it's the one before the last. Then insert a CD, and check the 'Audio CD Browser'. This enables you to directly access the tracks as .wav and .ogg - To get mp3 you need to encode the wavs with bladeenc or whatever. Cheers ..... Use: Grip -d </dev/scdrom> where </dev/cdrom> is your cdrom device. I had to do the same: specifying a different device as my DVDROM will not read CD's -- Twist it, stomp it, bounce it, shake it 'Cos you know the vibe is what you make it

YES... that was exactly it.... my setting is grip -d /dev/sr0 So now I can see and rip tracks.2 questions where do the mp3s get saved to and I want to produce mp3 files, do I need bladenc or lame. Iy seems like the only format I can choose without GRIP complaining is ogg wich is not as portable as mp3 thanks rob -- Fortune's Real-Life Courtroom Quote #37: Q: Did he pick the dog up by the ears? A: No. Q: What was he doing with the dog's ears? A: Picking them up in the air. Q: Where was the dog at this time? A: Attached to the ears.
Look Under Config::MP3::Encoder choose your encoder other fields, including "MP3 file format" (which determines path to mp3's), should fill with defaults. Look Under Config::MP3::Options Change as required Look Under Config::Rip specify the ripper and the path to stored .wav files before encoding <snip>On Sunday 29 September 2002 21:28 pm, robert73 wrote:
