How can I play mpg in SuSE 8. If I tries to start a mpg file, no movie is started, do I have to set up Konqueror to start it or what. I use Xine to see my dvd, but there must be a way that SuSE can so it, since they have left Xine out this time. Gunnar

There are lots of ways to play videos files in Linux. Xine and MPLayer are two worth looking at - both have some excellent strengths, and a few minor weaknesses. MPlayer (for most people) tends to be easier to setup and install, and supports pretty much every video codec except Sorenson Quicktime. The default media player for KDE - noatun can play some videos, but seems limited to the basic codecs... at least on my system. I have never bothered to try and make it work with DivX5 when MPlayer supports it so well. C.

I really like gtv. It's in package smpeg-gtv-0.4.4-245 on SuSE 8.0. One of the nice things is a little "double" button that scales up the window size by a factor of 2. With other packages, I can size the window by hand, but I always skew it one way or the other. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Will we all fight for the right to be free? Got spam? MPlayer has something similar.. if you right click on the Video window, you get a little popup menu, you can choose between Normal, Double and FullScreen. Haven't tried gtv. How well does it handle the multitude of audio and video codecs? C.

Not really sure. I've only used gtv to play mpg video. I use xine for dvd and mplayer for divx. Mplayer is kinda messy to set up but I'm not sure if xine can play divx. Most of my videos are mpg (music videos and movie trailers). I only have 2 divx videos so I haven't use Mplayer that much.
