[SLE] tightvnc and suse
Hi I've been using tightvnc on Mandrake for a long time, its very easy to use on that distro, click on the icon from the apps menus and enter the remote address and display number, then off it goes. Seems to be a little different on suse,I've tried vncconnect -display address port but I get richard-g8jvm@g8jvm:~> vncconnect -display 1 192.168.90.1:5901 vncconnect: unable to open display "1" Have I got to start another app at my end before it will connnect ? .TIA Richard -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

It's the same on SUSE. KDE Lauch, System, Remote Access, Krdc Enter the address like this: vnc://remote_computer_name_or_IP -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

If the remote computer is a SUSE Linux that has "VNC Remote Administration", then use vnc://remote_suse:1 If it's Windows or Linux with x0rfbserver, just vnc://remote -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

That was the first place I looked, but I'm using gnome and the remote access points straight back to the login greeter on this machine !
Enter the address like this: vnc://remote_computer_name_or_IP
Thanks

host> vncviewer ipaddress This defaults to display 0 on port 5900 which refers to the display you are (normally) logged in (your current X session). i.e. you connect to the currently logged-in users desktop. This implies that vncserver is running on the remote host, i.e. somebody is logged in on the remote host and he has remote access enabled. You may also run a vncserver explicitly as a service (most likely under xinetd) on the remote host, in which case the call is: host> vncviewer ipaddress:display or host> vncviewer::port both methods will then present you with the login screen where you have to login with username and password and start your own X session, independently of the user ogged on on screen 0 Peter On Monday 31 July 2006 20:26, Silviu Marin-Caea wrote:

At least on Suse 10 one may enable "remote access with VNC" in sax2 for the X server, which handles this with the X server module vnc (and VNC display :0). So no vncserver process is running... -- Viele Grüße ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael

Seems to be a little different on suse,I've tried vncconnect -display address port but I get richard-g8jvm@g8jvm:~> vncconnect -display 1 192.168.90.1:5901
Try: vncviewer 192.168.90.1:1 or vncviewer 192.168.90.1::5901
vncconnect: unable to open display "1" Have I got to start another app at my end before it will connnect ? .TIA

address port but I get richard-g8jvm@g8jvm:~> vncconnect -display 1 192.168.90.1:5901 vncconnect: unable to open display "1"
-display 1 is wrong I think.
